misconceptions about the e-cigs

There are a lot of rumours about the electronic cigarettes. Everyone around is telling how harmful or dangerous the e-cigs are without having actually a clue on this matter. We often hear an information and we just take it as such, without too much questioning or doing some research on that fact.

1. E-cigs aren’t healthy

There are a lot of studies out there proving that e-cigs can be 100 to 1000 times less dangerous than regular tobacco cigarettes as the nicotine is this way not absorbed from the lung but from the upper airway. Besides that, the e-liquids are a safe combination of laboratory grade nicotine, water, flavourings and bases such as Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerine (100% food safe ingredients). So, compared to the toxic chemicals found in the traditional cigarettes, electronic vaping is a much healthier option.

2. They are not safe and can easily explode

This can happen to any electronic device which is not treated with care. It’s the same with e-cigs. Make sure you follow the user manual of your e-cig and use the recommended and matching components (including chargers) –  do not modify or mess around with its parts. Do not expose your vaping device to extreme temperatures, and also you might want to avoid placing the e-cig together with other metallic objects (like keys, coins). For extra safety, it is recommended to turn off your vape device when you are not using it.

3. Electronic cigarettes are too complicated to use

There may seem complicated when you hear all the puzzling terms around the e-cigs and the vaping phenomenon. But most electronic cigarettes are so simple to use, especially when you are purchasing an all-you-need vaping kit. Even the fanciest mods have user-friendly manuals and you can always find useful information on the manufacturer’s site.

4. E-smoking is more expensive

Not true at all. The cost of vaping may look a little high on the first purchase when you are buying the vaping device you have chosen, but that is a one-time cost. The money you have to spend every month for the e-liquids and other spare parts like coils is significantly lower than the amount spend regularly on traditional cigarettes.

5. Electronic cigarettes can be more addictive than regular cigarettes

The fact is the vapour you get from vaping delivers extremely low amounts of nicotine to your body. Considerably less than traditional tobacco smoke. So the saying that one can crave the nicotine in electronic cigarettes more than with traditional cigarettes is totally not funded.

6. Vapour is the same as smoke

So not true. The vapour the e-cigs produce is literally vapour, not smoke. Some may fear that the vapour that is inhaled by the bystanders can harm them just like second-hand tobacco smoke (which contains toxic and harmful chemicals even for passive smokers). But as the vapour itself does not contain any of these chemicals and comes as no danger for the one that is inhaling it, and also dissipates very quickly, there is no reason at all for anyone to worry about that.

7. E-cigarettes contain anti-freeze

No serious e-cigs manufacturer is using anti-freeze in the e-juice that is meant for consumption. This frequent misconception is due to the fact that Ethylene Glycol (EG) is indeed used in anti-freeze and is commonly confused with Propylene Glycol (PG), the odourless base in e-liquids, that has been used safely for more than 50 years in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry.
